So you say it's your Birthday?

Well, it's my birthday too - no, really, it is!
It's funny how birthdays make you stop and take notice. Notice of my ever receding hairline and increasingly abundant gray hair conversions, sure, but also - taking note on some internal tracker of our success path - often one we didn't even realize we had.
What IS Success? Often our ideas of what 'success' looks like (or feels like) is set from a young age - based on pop culture or (for me) bad 80's movies, or who knows what - but certainly NOT from reality or deliberate planning and thought.
Success is a moving target. How often have we really wanted something, fought for it, worked our butt off to achieve it - and then, when we get it, it falls flat. It doesn't meet the expectations we had of how it would feel or what it would be like to finally reach that summit - often, instead, we are left with a sense of loss, because our mission, our purpose, our drive (to reach the summit) is gone. We are left empty and uninspired - what now, now that 'success' has been realized?
As leaders we challenge ourselves (and others) to continue to improve, that requires change; we recreate or renew our passion and purpose - sometimes daily - constantly evaluating our current 'state' and our definitions regarding success, happiness and impact. Here's the thing:
Success is not a one time endeavor - it is a lifelong pursuit.
No matter how far you've come or how far you still have to go - celebrate where you are TODAY, in this moment, take 5 minutes to just be AMAZED at what has already been achieved by YOU - even if it isn't your birthday - do it for mine! It's the best gift you can give me. Then... jump back in and make this next year of your life even better than the last.
Seek out new experiences and meet new people - enjoy the success you have already found, and, if you struggle with one of those loss moments, if your professional life plateaus or feels empty - call me - I've been there and I can help.
Sign up for a session, and let's get you striving and focused again, with passion and purpose!
